Miss Korea Lee Ha-Nee in blue jeans recently conducted a photo work for fashion magazine InStyle September edition.

Miss Korea Lee Ha-Nee (Honey Lee: 이하늬) was born in Seoul on March 2, 1983. She was crowned as Miss Korea 2006. The 175-cm-tall Lee was third runner-up in Miss Universe 2007.

Lee Ha Nee (이하늬) is a Korean Graduate student and gayageum player who represented her country at the Miss Universe 2007 pageant in Mexico City.

She is an educated girl and she loves languages. She is interested to learn at least 4 foreign languages. Honey Lee wants to become a university teacher- a noble goal. She also wants to be a cultural ambassador for her country, Korea.

Lee competed in the 50th Miss Korea pageant, where she won. She graduated from the Seoul National University, with honors, after taking up Korean traditional music. She is currently a graduate student in the same university.

To prepare herself for the pageant, Lee flew to Los Angeles and stayed there for three days, practicing walking, speaking and Korean dance. Many believe that Miss Korea's interpreter did a poor job by translating her last sentence as: “I wish I had superpowers so that my wallet would never dry up”, while in reality she said “I wish I had superpowers so that my wallet would never dry up, so that I could always keep on helping other people." Many believe the meaning of her answer was indeed dramatically changed.

Lee was dubbed as a strong contender for the crown. As an early favorite, she won the popularity contest of Global Beauties. She was favorite to win the crown along with Venezuela. She made it into the Top 15 and ended a nineteen-year drought for her country. She ended up being 3rd runner-up.

Lee plays the gayageum, a Korean zither-like musical instrument.
Lee has always wanted to be engaged in missionary work.

For all the contestant's entrance (in the Miss Universe 2007) wearing their national costumes, Lee wore the female hanbok (the national costume of her country) reminiscent of the style of the recent 2006 KBS drama Hwang Jin-i. She was also carrying a janggu with her when she wore her costume.

She was named by www.globalbeauties.com as "Face of the Universe", "Best National Costume", "GB Ms Universe 2007", "Best in Interview", and "Best in Evening Gown".

She is currently involved in volunteer work for UNICEF, Compassion and World Vision.

Honey Lee, who finished fourth at the 2007 Miss Universe beauty pageant, has recently drawn attention from Singapore's The Electric New Paper.

It was the first time the daily introduced a beauty contestant, not a celebrity. It wrote that Lee, who holds a third degree black belt in taekwondo, "once played 'bodyguard' to actress Kim Tae-hee" when she was in college, because she is 10 centimeters taller than Kim and has excellent taekwondo skills. The daily wrote, "The two beauties have been good friends since joining the same ski club while studying at Korea's prestigious Seoul National University in 2004."

Lee currently hosts a weekly entertainment show along with emcee Seo Kyung-seok, but she denies that she has made an official debut in showbiz. The Singaporean daily quoted Lee's agency as saying that Lee "wants to represent traditional Korean beauty and culture to the world. And this is the first step toward fulfilling her goal."

The Electronic New Paper showed great interest in Lee, adding that she received a traditional red Mexican doll from the First Lady of Mexico at the Miss Universe competition back in May.

LOOKING at the lovely Miss Korea Honey Lee, you'd think she needs to be protected against unwanted male attention. But this sassy girl can fend them off herself, thank you very much.

Honey Lee holds a black belt in Taekwondo.
She holds a third degree black belt in taekwondo, and once played 'bodyguard' to petite actress Kim Tae Hee (Love Story In Harvard).

Honey, 24, told JoongAng Daily: 'I'm taller so I said I'd be Tae Hee Onni's [Kim Tae Hee] (Onni = Korean for older sister) bodyguard.'

Standing at 1.73m, she is a good 10cm taller than Tae Hee, 27. The two beauties have been good friends since joining the same ski club while studying at Korea's prestigious Seoul National University in 2004.

It was also through her pal that Honey, whose Korean name is Lee Ha Neui, got to 'spy' on her favourite male actor Jung Woo Sung (Daisy).

When Tae Hee was in China filming the movie with Woo Sung last year, Honey said she would always call her to ask what he was doing and joke that she wanted to fly over to meet him.

But now, it seems that Honey may get to meet the hunk herself.

From last Wednesday, she has started co-hosting the showbiz news programme Real Time TV Entertainment, aired on Seoul Broadcasting System.

Her showbiz debut registered a reasonably good rating of 8.8, but her agency said it does not mean she plans to pursue a career in entertainment.

A spokesman said: 'She wants to represent traditional Korean beauty and culture to the world. And this is the first step toward fulfilling her goal.'

After all, Honey already got the world to notice her when she emerged third runner-up at the Miss Universe contest held in Mexico in May.

She also won the Best National Costume for an 'exquisite' hanbok.

Born to an intelligence official father and university professor mother, Honey has mastered the musical instrument, the kayageum (Korean zither) and has been named a prodigy by a prestigious musical foundation in Korea.

MUSICALLY GIFTED

She is now a post-graduate student at the Seoul National University, after earning an honours degree in traditional music.

The musically-gifted beauty not only plays the violin, piano and flute, but has a sporty side too.

She said on the official Miss Universe website: 'I grew up in Seoul. Unlike other girls, I loved to go out and play all sorts of sports.

'When I was not at school studying or at practice hall playing the kayageum,

I usually went outside to ski, learn taekwondo, or swim.'

Returning home from Mexico early last month, she said she did her best at the competition and 'feel proud of myself for getting into the top five'.

She brought home a souvenir - a red doll given to her by the First Lady of Mexico.

'I brought it back because I heard that it can mark my (future) husband's face if he cheats on me,' she told The Chosun Ilbo with a coy smile.

Beauty queen steps up and wins new career

Lee Ha-nui, who recently took fourth place at the 2007 Miss Universe, is set to co-host Real Time TV Entertainment, on the national TV network, SBS, a 12-year-old show focusing on show business. I was very impressed by Lee¡¯s attitude at the 2007 Miss Universe competition said producer Park Sang-Wook. Thats why I chose her as a co-host even though there were many other veterans competing for the job. She has great communication skills. She is also very good at English. I have no doubt that she will be a success.

The 24-year-old won the Miss Korea title in 2006 in the national beauty pageant and fourth prize at the 2007 Miss Universe contest, which took place in Mexico City in May.
Recently she received a good response after co-hosting the special TV program, Yes! I Love Pyeongchang, for SBS Television on July 4. Pyeongchang did win the Olympics, but Lee succeeded in finding a new path for her career.
Lee's agency said this doesn't mean her career will be in entertainment. She wants to represent traditional Korean beauty and culture to the world. And this is the first step toward fulfilling her goal, said an official with Lee's agency.

Leaders of Campus Crusade for Christ International (CCCI), one of the world's largest Christian ministries, are targeting campuses across the globe for world evangelization. And the agents for a global missionary movement are college students.

"It's like a revolution's going to happen - a spiritual revolution, by looking at you," said Dr. Joon Gon Kim, founder of Korea Campus Crusade for Christ (KCCC), through a translator. He was speaking to students from 127 countries who packed the BEXCO Convention Center during the opening ceremonies of CM2007 (Campus Mission) Monday night.

It was the first night that the international students, who commenced the historic global student missions conference on Saturday, were joined by over 10,000 CCC students from Korea. The students from overseas welcomed the Korean students to the conference with a bow and greeting in the Korean language.

"We believe that God wants to use South Korea in a mighty way to send revival around the world," said Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., in a video message.

For the past 50 years, KCCC's Kim has exhorted South Koreans to go out into the world and share the message of Jesus Christ and salvation. Accepting the challenge of the late CCCI founder Dr. Bill Bright, Kim established the first CCC outside the United States in 1958 when the country was in ruin in the aftermath of the Korean War and the Christian population was only at four percent. Today, the Christian population stands at around 27 percent and is the second largest missionary sending nation in the world. And Kim is credited by many for changing the world missionary movement.

"Korea has always taken such a lead in evangelism in the world and you can do it again," CCC co-founder Vonette Bright, wife of Dr. Bright, told the thousands of students at CM2007. "I believe from this conference, we will see the world change."

College students attending the worldwide weeklong gathering – CCC's largest student missions event – are seen as making history in the college campus mission movement and in world evangelization. CCC leaders anticipate an unprecedented mission movement ignited by college students as they aim to reach all 8,000 of the world's most influential universities. Christian movements are reportedly only on 2,000 of them.

"The world is on the verge of chaos and destruction; hate is ruling everywhere ... And Dr. Kim is so right when he says Jesus Christ is the only answer," said Vonette Bright as she called students to begin a protest of love and declare Jesus' love as the solution to the problems of the world.

"There's no greater calling and commission than to serve God's purpose, but we must serve God's purposes in our generation," Warren said in his video message.

Among those who have taken up the calling is Honey Lee, Miss Korea 2006 and third runner-up in the Miss Universe 2007 pageant. At 24 years old, she told the thousands of CCC students that one of her main visions is to expand the Kingdom of God and serve His Kingdom.

"I prayed that I'd win the Miss Universe title so that I would travel the world and share the name of Jesus," Lee said through a translator on Monday. Although she didn't win, Lee believes her third runner-up position was still a gift from God and told CM2007 students, "I'll be a faithful soldier to the Lord."

Calling the more than 16,000 students to take up a burden for the Kingdom of God, Kim shouted, "We need to bring a spiritual revolution to campuses! Let's transform the world!

"You are the hope of the future. You need to be responsible for the future."

At that time, Lee Ha Nui and Kim Tae Hee were part of the ski club and went for training in the ski area of Gangwon-do in the winter of every year. "I remember that we stayed in a guest house in Hoenggye city where it's far from the ski area in order to save on the hotel charges and we got on a pickup truck every morning to move to the ski area. We got tired eating spam, kimchi and tuna. We also set duties to make the rice ball box lunches every morning," she laughed.

Lee Ha Nui had the talent and Kim Tae Hee who watched her generous form at that time recommended her to advance into the entertainment world saying, "Let's work here together." Lee Ha Nui saw Kim Tae Hee make the entertainment world life exemplary and came up with the decision to challenge in Miss Korea.

"When I was in Mexico where the Miss Universe pageant was held, unni (Tae Hee) frequently made encouragement telephone calls. Recently unni is filming 'Ssawoom', she got done with it at ten o'clock last night and said that she wanted to go watch the movie 'Hwang Jini' but it was not possible for me to go out as I was tired. Perhaps I am the only person who refuses a date requested by Kim Tae Hee," Lee Ha Nui laughed.

Miss Korea Honey Lee, the fourth runner-up of this year's Miss Universe beauty pageant, will play the gayageum at the opening ceremony of Campus Mission slated for July 2-6 in Busan.

Beauty pageant winner Honey Lee will play the traditional Korean instrument gayageum at the "Love Sonata 2007 Revival Japan" concert to be held at the Super Arena Stadium on July 24th.

Her performance in Japan is particularly meaningful, as she will be joined by her mother, a master singer designated as intangible cultural relic No. 23, and her sister, who is also a gayageum musician.

Lee Honey fell short of her goal to take home the 2007 Miss Universe crown, "but I'm still happy," she said. Lee returned home from Mexico on Friday, her impressions of ranking fourth place in the pageant still fresh.
Lee arrived at Incheon International Airport around 5:30 p.m., a "Korea" sash draped across her shoulder. She was wearing a white shirt and designer jeans decorated with beads. She looked a bit tired but still managed a smile from beneath her oversized sunglasses for the many waiting cameras.

While Lee failed to win the show in Mexico City on May 29, her fourth place finish means she still managed to present the beauty of Korea to the world. "Even though no one believed in me or paid any attention when I was going to the competition, my goal was to become Miss Universe," she said. Ultimately she's still not certain if she succeeded or failed, she said. "But I did my best and I feel proud of myself for getting into the top five."

Lee returned to her home country with a red doll; a gift from the First Lady of Mexico. "I brought it back despite all the other stuff in my baggage because I heard that it can mark my husband's face if he cheats on me," she smiled coyly.

So when is Lee planning to make her debut in the entertainment industry? "My short term plan is to go back to school for the second semester," Lee said. "But my goal is clear. I want to present the beauty of Korea to the world, and I think that there are many ways to do that."

Miss Korea Lee Honey said she was happy with the crown she reaped at the 2007 Miss Universe beauty pageant _ the third runner-up.

``I couldn't bring the honor of Miss Universe to my country, but I think I took the first step. I believe there will be better results for those who come after me,'' the 24-year-old said during a press conference at Incheon International Airport upon returning from the 2007 Miss Universe beauty pageant held in Mexico.

Asked what she thinks of anti-beauty pageant voices, she said the answer is ``simple and clear.''

``Miss Korea is necessary to promote the beauty of Korea around the world,'' she said. ``I realized at the Miss Universe event that it was a truly global festival. It was not just about gathering mere beauties together, but an occasion for everyone to show each country's traditional clothes and culture. Rather than criticize the pageant for `commercializing women,' I think there should be some acknowledgement of the beauty of the times.''

Asked what she wanted to most after having been away from her home for one month, she said she wants to go to church, have a ``half-bath'' _ bathing the lower half of the body in hot water for 20 to 30 minutes _ and eat kimchi.

Lee, who is also a graduate student of the traditional Korean music at the prestigious Seoul National University, said she is determined about her future dream.

``It is to promote Korean culture around the world. I have to think more about what kind of weapons are necessary for that purpose.''

Korean Beauty Nearly Nabs Miss Universe Crown

Lee Honey, Miss Korea 2006, came in fourth place in the 2007 Miss Universe pageant in Mexico City on Tuesday. The final competition for the Miss Universe crown took place in the Mexican capital's National Auditorium for two hours from 8 p.m., with 10,000 people in the stands. It was broadcast live throughout the U.S. on NBC TV.
Lee Honey was praised by the judges and the audience for her confident attitude. She made it into the top 15 out of 77 beauty queens from around the world, and then into the top 10. She eventually finished in the top five alongside girls from Venezuela, Brazil, the U.S. and Japan.

Lee was just a step away from winning but had to be satisfied with fourth place when Riyo Mori claimed the crown -- valued at US$250,000. Mori studied ballet in Canada in high school and teaches jazz dance at her mother's dance school in Japan. Some six hundred million people in 180 countries are estimated to have watched the event.

Miss Korea 2006 Honey Lee has won an unofficial popularity vote of 2007 Miss Universe contestants. She was trailed by Miss Venezuela and Miss Greece.

The international beauty pageant website Global Beauties selected Lee as a candidate for the most popular contender among the 77 participants of this year's Miss Universe beauty pageant.

A day earlier, Lee was chosen as the "Face of the Universe" for her perfect facial features and smile.

On May 23, Lee's party dress modeled after the traditional Korean costume "hanbok" was chosen the best traditional dress.

Thus, Lee has won three unofficial titles ahead of the 56th Miss Universe competition slated for May 28 in Mexico.

Miss Korea Lee Honey, 24, finished third runner-up at the 2007 Miss Universe beauty pageant in Mexico, Monday. This was Miss Korea's best finish at the Miss Universe pageant since Chang Yoon-jung finished first runner-up in the 1988 contest.

Riyo Mori, a 20-year old from Japan, was crowned Miss Universe, beating out 77 contestants from all over the world. Rounding out the top five beauties were first runner-up Natalia Guimaraes of Brazil, second runner-up Ly Jonaitis of Venezuela and fourth runner-up Rachel Smith of the U.S.

Lee wore a stunning beaded gown that showed off her curves, earning high marks during the evening gown competition.

Before the pageant finals, Lee was one of the early favorites among the 77 participants, impressing judges with her beauty and brains.

Global Beauties, a beauty pageant Web site, selected Lee as its Miss Universe winner, followed by Jonaitis and Mori. She also received `The Face of the Universe Award for her smooth complexion and brilliant smile, and the GB Best National Costume Award for her exquisite traditional Korean hanbok.

Lee graduated with honors from the prestigious Seoul National University. She is also a professional player of the gayageum (12-string Korean traditional instrument) and was named a gayageum prodigy by the Kumho Art Center.

``I have two goals. One is to become a cultural ambassador for Korea as a gayageum player and professor of traditional Korean music. Miss Korea Wins Popularity Contest

Miss Korea topped the popularity contest among 77 contestants in the 2007 Miss Universe pageant. Global Beauties (GB), an online magazine for international pageants, picked Miss Korea Lee Honey as the most popular beauty on Friday.

Venezuela representative Ly Jonaitis and Doukissa Nomikou from Greece won the second and third place, respectively.

A day earlier, Lee was selected as ``The Face of the Universe Award’’ winner. The Web site says that Lee has a perfect complexion and a smile that can conquer the Universe and beyond.

Also, Lee won the GB Best National Costume Award on Wednesday. The award is given to the delegate who presented the most beautiful and creative costume.

Although the awards by GB do not influence the result of the Miss Universe competition, Lee’s achievement shows that her beauty is recognized worldwide.

The final winner of the 2007 Miss Universe pageant will be announced at the National Auditorium in Mexico City on Monday.

According to the web site of Global Beauties, an affiliate of the Miss Universe pageant, Korean contestant Honey Lee has been named among the 16 most eloquent candidates.

76 candidates, except for the Nigerian representative, recently went through interviews with international judges. The top 16, including Lee, were chosen based on allure, attitude and speech.

Lee earlier ranked the fourth most photogenic by the Global Beauties web site. And with the top score in the interview, she has demonstrated her strength in both looks and intellect.

In a traditional attire and instrument showcase Monday, Lee grabbed the spotlight by wearing a beautiful traditional Korean costume called hanbok.

Lee Ha-nui Publicizes Korean Alphabet Overseas

2006 Miss Korea Lee Ha-nui, who is running for Miss Universe this year, has posted on her personal Web site a photo showing her in a sleeveless shirt featuring Korean letters.

Lee's shirt was designed by fashion designer Lie Sang-bong, who zeroed in on the fact that foreigners tend to find geometric and abstract patterns attractive.

Korean calligraphy by traditional singer Chang Sa-ik, artist Lim Ok-sang and calligrapher Cho Sung-joo have been used as apparel patterns.

Lee will compete for the title of Miss Universe on May 28 in Mexico along with 76 contenders from all over the world.

Lee Honey, the winner of the 50th Miss Korea beauty pageant, left Korea on Wednesday to take part in the 2007 Miss Universe contest. Lee and her family are headed for Mexico City where the international event will take place on May 28.
"I hope to have an opportunity to rebuild Korea's image which was tarnished by the tragic deaths at Virginia Tech,"

Lee will spend three days in Los Angeles before flying to Mexico to participate in pre-competition events which start May 1. Lee has practiced walking, speaking and traditional Korean dance for three months to prepare for the pageant.

A 23-year-old Korean traditional harp player with dark brows and lovely dimples was chosen as Miss Korea 2006. Lee Honey (Ha-nui), a graduate student of Korean traditional music at Seoul National University, was honored as the most beautiful woman in South Korea at the 50th pageant ceremony held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in the heart of Seoul.

SNU Traditional Music Major Named 50th Miss Korea

The 50th Miss Korea pageant was held Thursday evening in the main theater of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. After a fierce but friendly competition, Lee Honey (23) was left standing with the crown of Korea's representative beauty for the next year.
Lee Honey completed in Korean traditional music at Seoul National University and is now in the first year of a masters program in the same field there. She comes from a distinguished family. Her father is a high-ranking official with the National Intelligence Service. Her mother is a professor at Ehwa Women's University and was in March designated a“living cultural asset" in the field of gayageum (Korean zither) music.

Compering the event were comedian Nam Hee-suk and 2001 Miss Korea runner-up Kim Ji-hye, who currently anchors a show on the Korea New Network in Busan. The flamboyant fashion designer Andre Kim was chief of a jury which also included actor Cha In-pyo.
